Peltier Solid State Actuation

Even high precision motors do not fit for nanopositioning applications as they introduce friction and backlash. Presence of friction rule the instruments out of nanopositioning. Hence Solid State Actuation is the appropriate one. Or any actuator that does not introduce friction or play are suitable for these tasks. It is a common sense for every nanotechnologist that a servomotor how much ever precision it may be, is not suitable for nanometer resolutions. Some companies claim to have used motorised actuation for nanometer resolutions. Friction, backlash, electromagnetic properties never allow the actuator to achieve nanometer resolution. Qtech is the FIRST in the world that uses Peltier Module for actuation.
Piezo crystals, when applied with charge, expand in size and vice versa. This property is useful for displacing stages to the required range. The piezo material is (Plumbum) Lead Zirconate Titanate, Pb (Zrx Tiy) O, in short known as PZT. With Piezoelectric translators, infinite resolution can be attained. The only limiting factor is the noise on the drive voltage. The shape may vary from cylindrical to tetrahedron depending upon the construction of stages.

PIEZO ACTUATOR (Data Sheet)

Qtech uses solid state actuators such as linear, bender and shear actuators. Qtech uses solid state actuators for scanning and sub nano precision applications. In future Qtech will produce its own solid state actuator with distinctive technology. Research and Development has been driven towards this direction.
LINEAR / ROTORY PIEZO MOTOR (Data Sheet)

Nowadays most of the applications need long range displacement with nanometer resolutions. Qtech has developed linear and rotory solid state motor for long range sub nanometer applications. Use of very long solid stage actuator for longer travel range not only increases the size of the devices but also shoots up the cost. Qtech’s this motors cuts cost heavily down.

PELTIER ACTUATOR (Data Sheet)

It is Qtech’s one of the highly innovative ideas. Apart from sticking to solid state actuator for all nanopositioning applications, Qtech has developed Peltier actuator for some suitable applications. This is very good cost effective solutions where just precision adjustment is required. Only disadvantage is its slow speed and hence not suitable for scanning.
