Nanopositioning
Art of positioning an object with nanometer resolution is known as Nanopositioning. Nanopositioning can also be defined as position control to atomic and molecular levels of the order of nanometer resolution. A water molecule (H2O) easily fits within a 1-nm-diameter circle and the size of a hydrogen atom is 0.1nm.

Nanopositioning devices (nanopositioners) are a basic tool for a range of research, manufacturing and test applications in the semiconductor, data storage, optoelectronics, chemical and biotechnology industries. The ability to image and measure at the nanoscale level is essential to nanotechnology R&D. Ultra-precise positioning systems, actuators, sensors and motion controllers are principal components of larger instruments, such as critical-dimension measurement tools, profilometers, scanning probe microscopes, optical microscopes, nano-automations and robots. There are tools used in manufacturing and test operations that involve ultra-precision machining, inspecting, and testing of parts.
